Zac Posen: Who, What, When, Where, Why?

Zac Posen is a relatively fresh name in the fashion world as he only started to emerge the scene in the early 2000s. Since then he has become an international patriarch of luxury fashion. Posen is a born and raised New Yorker who started designing clothes at the age of 14. He continued to study fashion closely in both New York and London. “In 2001, Posen constructed a gown entirely made from thin leather strips and dress-maker hooks and eyes that delivered a powerful commentary about the female figure.” Posen got his trademark after this incredible moment; his clothes are the epitome of simplicity and elegance.

Posen has become one of the leading names in Hollywood as many actresses love his designs that extenuate the female body. Some of the celebrities that are gaga about his look are Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway, Cameron Diaz, Claire Danes, Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé Knowles, Amanda Seyfried and even Michelle Obama. Posen has a way of making his collections work for women of every age- he includes young, colorful, form fitting looks for the younger demographic but he also focuses on a more sophisticated, age appropriate fit for the women in their 40s and 50s.

Posen’s spring 2013 collection is also worth talking about. His collection includes a range of renovated styles we have seen emerge over the past year such as the mermaid cut, peplum, and lace but Posen is able to take these simple commercial styles and add a level of intricacy to create luxurious pieces. Posen is interested in making pieces that will make every girl feel like a “princess” – or something close to that. I can imagine Gossip Girl replicas donning Posen’s pieces all over the Upper East Side.

What I find most inspiring about Posen is that even though he makes high end fashion, he remains down to earth. He is continuously updating his Twitter and Instagram to keep his fans engaged in his work and interests. It is so rare to find designers that communicate with the public- it makes his deigns feel more real and relatable.

I cannot wait to see what he has in store for us with his fall 2013 collection; it debuts on February 10th at the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Show. In the meantime you can check out his glamorous pieces at any top retailer including Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Holt Renfrew or even check out his website:
