Justin Timberlake: our generation’s Michael Jackson [REVIEW + PHOTOS]

Justin Timberlake is one of the few entertainers of our time to receive countless of love from different demographics. It has only been 7 months since Timberlake’s last visit to Toronto while on tour with Jay-Z yet the venue was packed with lovers and friends.

A couple minutes past the set time being 9p.m., the lights started to dim and the screams were getting louder and louder. It was time for the man of the hour or should I say 2 hours and half to come out! The first 5 songs “Gimme What I Don’t Know (I Want)”, “Rock Your Body”, “Don’t Hold the Wall”, “FutureSex/LoveSound” and “Like I Love You” were the perfect ratio of new and old material, giving us a feel of what the rest of the show would be like.

“My Love” was next, always accompanied by his incredible dancers and band (The Tennessee Kids). As the show went on, Timberlake always gave the chance for his fans to snap an up close photo of him by dancing his way from each side of the stage.

The last song of the first half of the concert was the breakup song of the decade “Cry Me a River”. No one can forget that time Britney Spears broke Timberlake’s heart which worked in his favor by making “Cry Me a River” his first top 10 hit as a solo artist and getting him a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal.

After a 10 minute beer break, it was time for “Only When I Walk Away” and “Drink You Away” from his latest album The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2. Justin Timberlake is one of the most versatile entertainers out there; the difference between the dynamics of each of his songs is incredible.

As the night went on, the catwalk Timberlake was performing on made its way to the middle of the venue where the VIP section was. Around the 3/4 of the show, the Memphis-born singer did covers to “Heartbreak Hotel” by Elvis Presley and “Human Nature” by Michael Jackson which was heartwarming.

After greeting a couple of fans and taking a selfie with a young lady in the crowd, Justin Timberlake used his personal guitar to sing the 7-minute long “What Goes Around… Comes Around”. Timberlake’s backup singers should be getting more credit for supporting his vocals so well.

Following a couple of new songs from his 2 last albums and more covers by Kool & The Gang and Bell Biv DeVoe, the concert reached to an end with “SexyBack” and “Mirrors”. With no surprise, “Mirrors”, that was inspired by the love story between Justin Timberlake’s grand parents, sounded even better live than on record!

Proving himself once again to be our generation’s Michael Jackson (yes I said it!), Timberlake performed an incredible 2 hours and a half show. I can personally say that I spent my Valentine’s day with the most talented and well suited fella in town.
