The eerie video above was posted online by a teenager named Elliott Rodger just a couple of days before his shooting rampage in Santa Barbara leaving several people dead. The main cause of this rampage? Girls.
“All I ever wanted was to love women, and in turn to loved by them back. Their behaviour towards me has only earned my hatred, and rightfully so! I am the true victim in all of this. I am the good guy. Humanity struck at me first by condemning me to experience so much suffering. I didn’t ask for this. I didn’t want this. I didn’t start this war… I wasn’t the one who struck first. But I will finish it by striking back. I will punish everyone. And it will be beautiful. Finally, at long last, I can show the world my true worth.”
Elliott Rodger is the son of a wealthy family, his dad is known to be a 2nd Unit Art Director/Producer for the first instalment of Hunger Games. According to the BBC, The lawyer for the alleged gunman’s father, Peter Rodger, said his son was diagnosed with “highly functional Asperger’s syndrome” as a child. Even though his parents were fully aware of his Youtube channel filled with these eerie video-diaries, after being interviewed and questioned by police, his case was dismissed because they found him to be very polite and understanding. What the actual fuck?
This lone gunman sprayed bullets from a car in a drive-by shooting in a southern California college town, killing at least six people before his car crashed and he was found dead inside, bullet to the head. The worst of it all, is that this dude was showing signs of his plans prior to the shooting, yet no one thought twice about it. UCSB shooter Elliot Rodger wrote a 140-page memoir-manifesto at some point prior to his murder spree. They even found 3 people dead in his apartment. This memoir is now available to read online, it traces his life from his earliest memories to his plans for the Day of Retribution, a similar term he used in the video above.
This whole entire story, painted by the media, is targeting females mainly, which corners them into becoming the victims and perpetrators of this kind of hate-crime. The age-old damned if you do, damned if you don’t predicament women face about their sexuality is more than real. If you have sex, you won’t be respected, but if you don’t have sex, you still won’t be respected. It’s an impossible paradox. How do we deal with this?
The whole story took a turn to the worst, pointing fingers at women all over the world and blaming them for not putting out in general. Instead of logically blaming society and how people in the United States are just pure messed up because of it, guys are taking to social media to ‘teach girls a lesson’ out of this.
Elliott Rodger was known to be part of a bunch of Male Activist groups on facebook, the types of groups that promote conservative and extremely old-school ideologies about gender roles in society. Misogyny and sexual double standard is at the core of this whole ordeal, and people are still turning a blind eye and proving to be completely disillusioned from the big picture. This guy was messed up. His anger ran deep to the point of no return, and he was influenced by the type of people that are ruining the evolution of society. As much as people online are ‘feeling bad’ for him, they shouldn’t. He is not the victim here, women are. He just proved to all of us how people are still not thinking straight and how much work we have to do to change the way people think in general.
People should use him as an example to open up discussion and teach young generations that life isn’t all about what movies and pop culture portrays. We are smarter than that. Right?
