Last week, IX got a special invitation to New York to attend The Converse CONS KA3 launch, held at a private “key holders” skateboard warehouse, and hosted by Kenny Anderson. This collection launch was intimate, yet very effective, as we were placed in the middle of the KA3 culture, in which we were surrounded by skaters who were trying out the pair for the first time, for real.
This new collection was designed to not only meet the performance demands of skateboarders, but also for the lifestyle consumer looking for an essential sneaker to wear on their daily journey.
To coincide with the launch of the Converse CONS KA3, we all got the chance to watch the short film titled “Threes” featuring Anderson and celebrating his new signature sneaker with the theme of the number “three”. The film illustrates the journey through Anderson’s mind as he focuses on landing a particular three trick line throughout the streets.
I got the chance to talk with Kenny Anderson to see where his mind was at in terms of launching his third collection, and all he had to say was that he feels like it’s all coming together quite nicely, and that this new release is definitely the best he’s achieved up until today. When asked about the direction skateboarding culture has taken ever since the 90s, he was very keen to point out that the evolution is just an adaptation to the ever-so evolving culture of the internet. According to Anderson, clothing and apparel plays a huge part in skateboard culture, and will always remain that way. He is proud to represent Converse as it was always a dream of his to collaborate with Converse ever since he started skateboarding.
The Converse CONS KA3 stays true to the CONS skateboarding heritage with a classic skateboarding silhouette, and also integrates functional features like CONS traction rubber for optimal board grip, a drop-in Lunarlon sockliner for cushioning, and a vulcanized last for superior board feel. The perforated memory foam collar forms to the foot and provides breathability while the gusseted tongue offers stability and comfort.
The Converse CONS KA3 sneaker will be available for purchase on Friday, January 15 with a rich premium leather silhouette for a suggested retail price $85 CAD, as well as other iterations in leather, canvas and suede in six different colors including Dolphin and Black for a suggested retail price of $80 CAD. Both models will be available at skate specialty retailers nationwide.
