Montreal SafeHouse’s Maxime Boivin Puts A Twist On Classic Rum Drinks

We think you should ditch the regular rum & coke concoction and go for this instead.

There are so many places where you can order a perfectly good rum cocktail, but if you have no clue where to begin (like me), I suggest you try out the 3 recipes below, put together by Maxime Boivin, co-owner of Montreal's Safehouse

Maxime Boivin has had more than a decade of experience in mixology. Previously at Maison Boulud at the Ritz-Carlton Montreal, he now co-owns new restaurant and bar SafeHouse, located in Old Montreal. At an exclusive event featuring both Appleton Estate’s popular Signature Blend and Rare Blend 12 Year Old, Maxime curated a menu with a twist on the classics, in cluding a Pina de Jamaica, Negriloni and the Kingston Fashion.

The Appleton Rare Blend is a great spirit to sling in a great Old Fashion. I made a variation with allspice, long peppersyrup and black walnut bitter. With the orange twist flambé, it makes one heck of a drink!" -Maxime Boivin

Even if you aren't into them fancy drinks, you'll love taste-testing this. There's always the option of going directly to Safehouse to try it out, but you can definitely also put together these cocktail in the comfort of your own home. It is inevitable to cop out and go for the regular ol' rum & coke when you're out at the club, but this holiday season we urge you to take it up a notch and challenge yourself at putting together these easy-to-make cocktails.

Appleton Estate partnered with SafeHouse to create custom holiday cocktails for the upcoming season, so we highly suggest you go to your local liquor store and grab a bottle of Appleton Estate's Signature blend and whatever else you need in the recipes below to make it happen. We got a chance to taste-test each of these drinks, and it wasn't hard to make them at all.
